November, 2016
Announcements:
- Check out the DHS Guidance Website for information on financial aid and scholarships, college applications, ACT & SAT and sending transcripts: http://dhscounselor.weebly.com/
- FAFSA- Free Application for Federal Student Aid – any college-bound senior will need to complete the FAFSA. The 2017–18 FAFSA will launch on Oct. 1, 2016. (This is the first year it is available prior to January 1!) You can get a head start by going to the website: https://fafsa.ed.gov/
- College Application Week - November 14-18, 2016 https://www1.cfnc.org/College_Application_Week/CAW_Seniors.aspx
At this time of year, most of the scholarships that we have information about are state and national with an application process online. There will be more listings as the year progresses, especially in the spring, when most of the local scholarships are available. However, there are thousands of scholarship opportunities out there that don't come through the school. Just be careful - you should never have to pay for scholarship information or help. Don’t get scammed! http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0082-scholarship-and-financial-aid-scams
The best chance for significant scholarship money is through the college you will attend. Go to the college website and research their scholarships. Some specific NC college links for this are:
